Brett Dennen and his band
performed at Mr. Smalls Theatre located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October
25, 2011. Performing songs from Loverboy
and his past two albums, So Much More
and Hope for the Hopeless, Dennen was impressive. He was flirty, quirky, and fun and even
showcased his funky dance moves. Stylish
in his own way, wearing a simple jean jacket, brown jeans and of course his
signature bare feet.
Considering he has been under the
weather, his performance was flawless.
Opening the show with Surprise,
Surprise followed up with Little Cosmic
Girl he prepared the crowd for a joyful evening. This was an all age’s show and as you looked
around the room it was amazing the range of generations Dennen’s music has
inspired. Children under the age of five
all the way to senior citizens in their 60's and 70's, singing in unison to all
his Loverboy anthems such as, Make You Fall in Love With Me, Dancing at a
Funeral, and of course, Comeback Kid
(That’s My Dog).
For his encore the stage was simply
set with one spotlight, one guitar, and one man. Stripping down into an
intimate acoustic setting that surely left the women of the room wooing. Finishing up with Ain’t No Reason there may not have been a dry eye in the
house. His band rejoined him on stage to
close the show and surprisingly, this set included a deep cut of Queen of the Westside.
Before leaving to inspire another
city of fans, Dennen and the band casually entertained after concert goers and
spent time with the fans. A true testament to their personalities and proves
their appreciation towards those that enjoy their work.
