Gone are the days of Judy Garland and Lena Horne, but the voice of Zooey Deschanel still promotes a desire to dust off old vinyl records and set up the vintage phonograph to send you back in time. She and Him are Zooey Deschanel and Matthew Ward and they started their musical journey together in 2006. They have had two albums to date and recently released their third, A Very She & Him Christmas in October 2011.
Covering the typical holiday jingles, She and Him put an antique twist on the holiday classics. This holiday shuffle sounds like a Ritchie Valens holiday special with Ward’s guitar complimenting Valens’ essence and there is even a dash of Hawaiian holiday present with the ukulele appearing in a song or two. Simplicity was essential when composing the arrangements to make this album, Deschanel and Ward made sure not to clutter or over produce each track with the usual "I’m trying too hard to make a holiday album" nonsense.
A Very She & Him Christmas is an album full of warmth and cheer. So spike your egg nog, roast some chestnuts and relax this holiday season with this timeless holiday treat.
