Jason Mraz - LOVE is a Four Letter Word

He is kind of a matter of fact fellow, with his clever quips and lay it all out lyrics.  He is just the type to say “Yeah, I went there”.  Poking around at some of Jason Mraz’s live tracks from Live is a Four Letter Word, I have developed this attitude towards him, like “Right On”.  He is fun and quirky and never really afraid of the word awkward or presenting a ‘misunderstanding’.  Maybe he is just a soft hearted man that copes behind comedy which is evident in his new album LOVE is a Four Letter Word.

Jason Mraz’s new album LOVE is a Four Letter Word debuted on April 17, 2012 and is filled with songs that attack the word LOVE. By weeks end the listener will be singing his anthems and adding their own harmonies to his already present groove.  The album not only touches on love for a significant other but Mraz adds several family elements with his track “93 Million Miles” – discussing his “irrefutable father” and “beautiful mother”.  As well as “Frank D. Fixer” touching on his grandfather’s do-it-yourself attitude and the man that fixed a broken home. Even the album itself is dedicated to his Aunt Sharon. (Cue adoring screaming girls here).

The sleeper song of the album is “5/6” with a beat and time signature that sweeps your ear into a jazzy bliss and “Be Honest” joined by Inara George leaves the listener wanting to enjoy a few dry martinis while sinking into this experience.

The album cover is full on insightful blurbs from Mraz, explaining each song in one or two lines; such as “Everything is Sound” which he says “Music is our greatest weapon in the war against unhappiness.” Or “I Won’t Give Up” with “Sometimes we forget our own greatness. It’s up to you and you alone to love yourself into the person you always dreamed you’d become.” Mraz even  quotes the late Mister Rogers with "Understanding love is one of the hardest things in the world", which inspired him to write these 12 songs (plus one hidden track). Being a girl from Pittsburgh how could I not love the album even more?

Mraz represents my favorite type of musician with his creamy and understated love songs and LOVE is a Four Letter Word had me at “LOVE”.  This is an album that can be set to play from start to finish and I hope you will get yourself a copy.
