Two years ago Florence Welch’s first album Lungs debuted and became critically
acclaimed by music lovers. Welch was a
force to be reckoned with and had a voice that could move mountains. Her second album Ceremonials makes Lungs
look like child’s play. The Machine is
firing on all cylinders for 12 thunderous tracks (16 with the deluxe edition), equipped
with drum and bass arrangements that are violent and dark while Welch’s voice
is nothing less than phenomenal.
Shake it Out,
premiered on September 14, 2011 and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in
London, England along with the rest of the album. This track uses a formula
much like Dog Days Are Over and the track’s
cadence is as if Welch is channeling Annie Lennox’s 1992 hit Walking On Broken Glass. Lennox would be proud to know she may have
been a slight influence on this protégé.
Ceremonials produces
more mature sounding Welch, who does not restrain her voice or musical vision
in this project. If you were pleased with Lungs,
you will be overcome with Ceremonials. Welch remained true to her sound and did not
let outside influences deter her from what she knows is true.
