January 24, 2012 – Ingrid Michaelson, Human Again
While casually following this artist for several years, ever
since the release of The Way I Am,
Michaelson has always appeared to be a shy and timid retro artist with her
music encompassing an upbeat and fun atmosphere. Her new album, Human Again is set for release in early
2012 and proves to be deeper and full of color as depicted in her release of Ghost.
January 24, 2012 - Rodrigo y Gabriela, Area 52
The dynamic Spanish flavored duo is back with Area 52 in January and is coming with a
force. Backed by their renowned Latin
inspired orchestra, C.U.B.A., this album will be filled with Cuban and Latin
fire with inspired melodies of this community, but remains standard with their
ever present acoustic roots that inspired this duo from the beginning.
January 31, 2012 – Lana Del Rey, Born to Die
Having heard Lana Del Rey’s first single, Video Games, I thought, what a strange
title for a song. But immediately I was caught in the haunting lyrics sung by her
smoldering, sensual voice. A sexually
charged lyrical arrangement laced with the loss of innocence, this is one song
this ‘bad girl’ will be known for. This first single laid the ground work for an exciting debut album. I am anxious to hear what Miss Del Rey has in
store with her new album, Born to Die and I pick her as my break out artist of 2012.
TBD – John Mayer, Born
and Raised (unconfirmed title)
Setting up for his long awaited follow up to Battle Studies, Born and Raised was
targeted for release in 2011, however due to throat conditions this album has
been pushed into 2012. Battle Studies
was not a disappointing release however following up the critically acclaimed Continuum it may have fallen flat. Disappearing from the lime light within the
past year to refocus on his craft, the industry has become curious about what
Mayer is planning for this upcoming album.
